Overview
iQra is built with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or share any personal data with third parties. The app operates entirely on your device.
Data We Collect
iQra collects NO personal data. Specifically:
- No account or login required
- No email, phone number, or name sent to any server
- No analytics or tracking SDKs
- No advertising frameworks
- No crash reporting services
- No data is transmitted to our servers — we have no servers
Your name (if provided during onboarding) is stored locally on your device only.
Location Data
iQra requests your approximate location solely to calculate accurate prayer times for your area. This data:
- Is used only for prayer time calculation via the Adhan library
- Is stored locally on your device
- Is never transmitted to any server
- Uses coarse accuracy (city-level, not precise GPS)
- Can be denied — the app works without it (prayer times won't be available)
Reading Data
Your reading progress, streaks, and settings are stored locally on your device using:
- App Group UserDefaults (shared between the app and its extensions)
- SwiftData (for reading history)
This data never leaves your device. If you delete the app, all data is permanently removed.
In-App Purchases
iQra offers optional one-time tip purchases (Sadaqah) via Apple's StoreKit. These transactions are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store any payment information.
Screen Time & Family Controls
iQra uses Apple's Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity) to block selected apps until daily reading goals are met. This data:
- Is managed by iOS, not by iQra
- App selection tokens are opaque — we cannot see which apps you selected
- All blocking data stays on your device
Audio Streaming
Quran recitation audio is streamed from QuranicAudio.com (by Quran Foundation). When you play audio:
- A direct HTTPS connection is made to download.quranicaudio.com
- No personal data is sent with the request
- Downloaded audio is cached locally for offline playback
Notifications
Local notifications (reminders, azkar times) are scheduled on your device. No push notification server is used. No notification data leaves your device.
Children's Privacy
iQra does not knowingly collect any data from children. The app contains no age-restricted content.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the app and on this page with an updated date.
